The Fine Point: Recent Purchases

I’ve been shopping!

The picture above are some of the items from my most recently Goulet Pens order. Reviews coming to a blog (this one!) near you soon.

I’ve heard Private Reserve Spearmint is a great shading ink. Going to take it for a spin.

I’ve read a lot of positive things about Nalgene bottles – especially for traveling with inks. I bought a few bottles and am going to give them a try soon. Will report back.

And…omg…finally…

It’s a Waterman 52. I have to tell you – I’m in love. Over the moon. Warm + fuzzy. I am in love with this pen. It’s a wet noodle – ultra-super-flexy – and I am in love. Mini review and handwriting samples coming soon!

Have a great weekend!

PEN REVIEW: Pelikan Script 1.0

A quickie review of the Pelikan Script 1.0 for you today.

I bought this inexpensive (I’m thinking under $10) pen at the SF Pen Show a couple of years ago. I remember someone saying that this is the pen that young French children use when they are learning to write. I’d dipped it in a little ink to test it out and then put it in a drawer and totally forgot all about it until a couple of weeks ago.

There’s no converter – and I don’t think one is even available for it. One of the standards might fit – to be honest, I didn’t even try. Instead, I bought a couple of packs of Pelikan cartridge ink from Goulet Pens.

Definitely a big broad nib. For such an inexpensive pen, I found it quite nice to write with. Smooth, maybe even a bit of a “skater.”

Very easy to deal with. Am thinking this would be a fun pen to take on trips. Just pop 1-2 cartridges and the pen into a bag and we’re off. No mess, no fuss. And, really, if this pen gets lost in transit, I’m not going to be heartbroken for long.

You know what’s irritating about this pen? It’s not made to be posted. Not an issue if you don’t normally post, but a bit, well, irritating if you’re a poster like I.  The cap will definitely fit on to the end of the pen, but it rattles around up there like mad.
All-in-all, I like the Pelikan Script.
Are you into any cheapie pens right now? Or maybe a special Pelikan? I love that they make pens for every budget, don’t you?

INK REVIEW: Diamine Flamingo Pink

O.M.G.

Other than Pilot Iroshizuku’s Momiji (which I did not love even though others seem to wild about it), I’ve not tried any pink inks.
I’m not sure I need to try any other pinks. This may be it. This might be (dare I say?) love.
See it even bigger.
I used this ink for a week and totally loved it. Fun, bold, happy times. Yeah, there’s not much of a practical use for it – you’re not going to sign important legal documents with it – but so what. Use it for your grocery list, leave a note for your honey, embrace the pink!
Diamine’s Flamingo Pink is gorgeous! The name 100% fits the ink (and you know how much I love that!). It writes great, too – smears a little and isn’t perfect in a water test – but there are much more boring colors that do this, too.
Hello Spring! Welcome back!
I love you!

INK REVIEW: De Atramentis Sandalwood

Love this ink. Except….
Let me show and tell you about all of the positives first.

I love the color. Green with a touch of blue.  Definitely pretty.

It writes well. A little shading in there.

It scores well with me. I shouldn’t have given it Fun Bonus Points, but I was caught up in the moment.
So what’s the problem?  It stinks. It’s noticeable, but ok at first. Tolerable. Even kind of fun.
But dude. After a week of using DeAtramentis Sandalwood as my green of choice, I was so over it. Gross. I don’t mind the scent of sandalwood – Mr. Pentulant would even say that I’m a bit of a hippy who embraces the, ahem, earthy scents. But not this. It was just too much. There was a hint of a petroleum smell in the background – totally ruined it for me. Going on the Hated It list. Bummer.
No.
Darn.

The Fine Point

Wooo…it’s been a busy busy week!

Just a few links for you today, but next week is going to be jam-packed with reviews and pictures. And..I got a new (old!!) pen.

Have a great weekend!

There’s something about ink in a demonstrator, hm?  Speaking of which, here’s a comparison of the TWSBI 580 and 540. (I might have a 580 sitting unopened!) (I’m telling you, it’s been a busy week!)

Regrets? I’ve had a few.

Oh yeah, I have one of these (or maybe two!) on the way!

I’ve had this happen! And agree that it is like finding $10 in your pocket!

Montblanc Card review for your reading pleasure.

Do you like this ink? It’s not for me. Too green.

A newbie’s struggle.

Impressive!

I love this blog. Simple fast posts, pictures. Fun. I just love it.

Inky good fun!

INK REVIEW: J Herbin Violette Pensee

Boom! Take that, boring winter colors! Pow! In yo face!

See it huge.

I really like this color. It’s maybe a little milky looking, but in this case, I really really like it. Boom!

Totally saturated, fun color that doesn’t hold up well to water. (So what?)
LOVE that the drop spatter is visible in this image.
It’s the little things.

My bottom line? Same as my top line!

Perfect getting ready for spring color. Agree? Disagree? Discuss in the comments!
(Oh yeah..and Private Reserve Tanzanite? I’m coming for you, Ms. Thang.)

The Fine Point

Written with Namiki Falcon Soft Fine Nib + Noodler’s Habanero Ink
Hello, Friday, where have you been all week?
The image above and the few below were all posted by me on Instagram. Lots of fun there. Lots.
This pen/ink combination was popular with me this week!
Very popular!

Highly recommended. I had more than my fair share – just ask Mr. P.

Seriously, that flexy pen + habanero ink is pushing all of my other pens out of the way this week. It’s crazy.

Anyway, each week, I’m bringing you some bonus photos and links to things I’ve been checking out online.

Here we go….

But I’ll pass, too. Thank you anyway!

I need a wet noodle. Right now.

The White House Calligraphers earn a bunch of money.I’m not feeling political about it, but I really think we need to keep them on board. What do you think?
Will this change your mind?
That’s it for this week! Where have you been hanging out?
xo

REVIEW: Sharpie Pen Stylo

Apparently, I’ve been on a Sharpie kick lately!
These pens (fineliners, really) are not related to the permanent markers that we all know (and love) from Sharpie.

The “comfort grip” is a bit gross. It feels tacky as if it would collect any little particle of dust or fuzz. Know what I mean?

Other than the feel of the grip, it’s ok – as long as you don’t mind a long dry time.

I’m not a fan of this item. In fact, I’ve already “lost” these pens. Ick.

INK REVIEW: J Herbin Vert Empire

We’re going to dive right into this quick review . . .

Click for the full-size image

This was a stop on the way to finding a deep dark green for Mr. Pentulant.

A fast stop. I couldn’t tell if this was green or gray (grey). With a name like Vert, I’d expect something rather obvious.
Bottom Line: This is not the perfect ink for Mr. Pentulant, but mostly because of the color. If you liek the color, it’s actually a very well-behaved ink.
Tell me, do you like this color?
